Society of Professors of Education (SPE) has announced the recipients of the 2012 Wisniewski Award for Teacher Education is The National Center for Fair and Open Testing (Fair Test), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts.

The Ohio Valley Philosophy of Education Society (OVPES) has established a new space for providing access to announcements, conference information, and its journal, Philosophical Studies in Education.

Standards for Academic and Professional Instruction in Foundations of Education, Educational Studies, and Educational Policy Studies

The AESA Committee on Academic Standards and Accreditation (CASA) is responsible for reviewing and updating, when deemed appropriate, Standards for Academic and Professional Instruction in Foundations of Education, Educational Studies, and Educational Policy Studies. The Standards were originally developed in 1977-1978 and revised in 1996. The current draft of the Standards was revised by CASA over the past year.

We invite comment on the draft Standards from the community of foundations scholars, prior to submitting the final revised Standards to the AESA Executive Committee for approval. Please forward your comments to Sandra Winn Tutwiler, sandy.tutwiler@washburn.edu, by March 31, 2012.

There are now two addresses that will take visitors to our CSFE site:  csfeonline.org  and a new address — socialfoundations.org  Please share either of these links with those who might be interested in learning about the Standards and other Council work.

If you would like to support the work of the Council, please consider joining as an individual (sustaining) member.  The cost is minimal ($10).  Membership forms are available for download through the “Membership” page to the right.  For leaders of social foundations organizations, this would be an ideal time to submit membership dues as well.  See membership forms for details.

This year, the CASA committee of AESA has been reviewing and drafting proposed revisions of the CLSE/AESA Standards. We will try to get the word out as opportunities for comment become available.

And finally, it is time for us to elect new CSFE officers.  In the near future, I will appoint a nominations committee to prepare a slate of candidates for those whose terms of office have expired.  We will also be working to identify current voting members (member organization delegates) in order to hold a proper online election.  A call for nominations will be posted here, and on the AESA listserve soon.

The new Handbook of Research in the Social Foundations of Education is now in print. A portion of the royalties from this publication will be transferred to the Council to support its work on behalf of social foundations. We would like to thank Steve Tozer for taking the lead on this on behalf of CSFE.  All of the editors and the contributors who made this volume possible are to be congratulated for their work on this important project.
